This collection consists of 2 photocopies of manuscripts written by Daniel Y. Meschter. The North Central Regional Library had borrowed rolls of microfilm of newspapers for Mr. Meschter. He used these and other sources to write a manuscript about the Blewett Mining District. He gave a copy to the NCR Library and the librarian was impressed with his research. She asked his permission to copy the manuscript for the Washington State Library (WSL). So, he loaned her the original for better copying. Meschter said the only other copy was with his employer, U.S. Forest Service and neither he nor the Service had planned on publishing it. WSL has two copies: one, dated 1979 with 85 leaves; one dated 1980 with 109 leaves. The 1980 edition seems to contain and extra chapter and the title page states "Part I."

Maud P. Mitchell was born about 1883 in Oregon. She married Chas. R. Mitchell and by 1920 they were living in Chehalis, WA. Charles was an assistant cashier at the bank. Charles had become a banker by 1930. Between 1957 & 1958 Charles passed away. And Maud passed away on 29 May 1960 in Chehalis, WA. Daniel Y. Meschter retired as a geologist in 1984. He wrote a weekly local history column for the Rawlins, Wyoming, "Daily Times" from the early 1970s-1988.
